This Hart Frederick acrylic sculpture ‘Contemplation” is from the Age of the Light Collection from 1985. Hart pioneered the use of acrylics in figurative sculpture. He called this technique sculpting with light. The figures Hart creates are classic. Yet his medium of clear acrylic is modern and technologically advanced.
About Frederick Hart (1943-1999)
Artist, sculptor, and stonecutter in the classical style, Frederick Hart was an apprentice at the National Cathedral in Washington DC. During his apprenticeship, Hart won a competition to design the facade of the National Cathedral. His thirteen-year masterpiece resulted in a 21′ x 15′ bas relief sculpture.
Frederick Hart designed theThree Soldiers bronze sculpture for the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial. This sculpture was realistic in style and contrasted with the abstraction style of Maya Lin. Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in South Carolina, Hart was an opponent of most contemporary art. As a proponent of realism, Hart was made an honorary member of The American Society of Classical Realism Guild of Artists.
