Artist Statement
My art reflects my abiding optimism and faith in the order of our world. My process, sometimes intellectual and sometimes intuitive, consists of working and reworking shapes and colors towards an expressive whole that will have the power to evoke emotion, sensuality, and spirituality.
I choose the digital medium for its power to combine and synthesize various artistic effects, producing a host of visuals that would not be possible with any natural medium. Beyond this, the extraordinary options of art software allow for superior inventive flow in the development of an image. As a perennial student of Art History, I feel fortunate to have available to me creative tools of which the great masters could have only dreamed.
More About Chalda Maloff
My intent is to create artwork that not only evokes an immediate response, but that will also reveal more of themselves over time. I use techniques to disclose by degrees previously unobserved elements, to reframe and visually redraw the surface, and hopefully to elicit a reevaluation of previous conclusions. I invite the viewer to leisurely perusals, with an openness to surprise, delight, and a kindling of the imagination.
Chalda Maloff creates her digital paintings by using a combination of freehand electronic tablet drawing, scans of her own natural media drawings, digital effects, and filters. She uses no photographic process. Chalda prints her images with archival inks on gloss art paper, face-mounted to museum quality 3/8” acrylic, designed to be hung without a frame. However, they may be framed, if you desire.
Her work is offered in very small edition sizes of 3 to 12. Chalda reworks the digital file between prints, yielding variations within an “edition variée” so that each artwork is unique.
Chalda Maloff Awards and Recognitions
Maloff’s art has been exhibited throughout North and South America and in Europe. Recent awards include the Guerilla Painter Award from the Visual Arts Society of Texas and Second Mention of Honor at the VIII Salón de Arte Digital in Venezuela. Recent solo exhibits have been at the Morris Graves Museum of Art in California and Ceres Gallery in New York City. Chalda Maloff holds a doctorate in Human Ecology, and she lives in Austin, Texas.
