Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it. ” – Andy Warhol

I paint in a “realistic” manner, but ironically, do not think of myself as a realist in the sense of someone who simply “paints what he sees”, but rather, one who is using the world of form and light to express deeper ideas through symbolism and metaphor. I see archetypal images in a tree, a mountain or a lake. I view the outer world as a reflection of the inner world.

I work in an indirect style, similar to the old masters, beginning a painting with a careful drawing and toned background. Next, thin, transparent layers of paint are applied, allowing the under-painting to show through. I finish with glazes that add depth and color harmony to the composition.

I have been fortunate to combine my two passions in life – painting and mountaineering. I have always been drawn to high places and have a deep connection with them.
